Little, daily, and it sticks
Básico 1 is small and finishable. What decides whether it sticks is not how long you study in one go, but that you touch it every day — even for ten minutes.
1 Your 10-minute day
The floor is what you do on a bad day. Anything beyond it is a bonus.

2 The week around your class
One online class a week, Mondays 19:00 (São Paulo time). Study is built around it.
- MonClass. Take notes of anything new; ask about whatever you didn't catch.
- TueWithin a day: look at what was taught and write the homework down. Memory is strongest right after class.
- Wed–FriThe 10-minute day. Homework in small bites, not the night before.
- SatOne slightly longer session if you have it (20–30 min): exercises or a full audio track.
- SunLight cards only, then check the Schedule for what Monday brings.
3 How the cards come back
Each character or word is a card that lives in a box. A new card starts in box 1. Every box has a waiting time before the card returns:
The card moves up one box and waits longer before coming back.
The card goes back to the start and returns soon. That's the system working, not failing.
Try it: pretend you're answering one card.
Box 1 · due now
- Only taught material. A card enters your queue after it has been taught in class — never because it appears later in the book.
- "Known" means a card has survived three correct reviews in a row (box 4 or higher).
- Why it works: you see a card just as you're about to forget it, so each review buys a longer gap. Cards you know cost almost nothing; the effort goes where you need it.
- A day's new cards and reviews have a cap, so a big backlog never becomes a wall.
4 Getting the most from the online class
From the Instituto Confúcio guide Aproveitando melhor as aulas online.
Before class
- Check your internet, and that audio and video work on the device you'll use.
- Pick a quiet spot if you can.
- Tell the people you live with when your class is.
- If your webcam is on, classmates and the teacher can see you.
- Be on time.
During class
- Avoid distractions: pause social media and messaging apps, turn the TV off.
- Keep your microphone muted while others speak — many open mics make noise. Unmute only to talk.
- Have a question? Ask the teacher, or write it in the chat.
Between classes
- Set aside time to review past lessons — it helps you remember.
- Build a study routine and do the homework.
- Watch films and series and listen to music in Mandarin; try learning apps; ask your teacher for tips.
- The Instituto Confúcio blog has culture posts and tips on digital libraries with Chinese-language material.
- Learn to type in pīnyīn and in hànzì (characters) on your computer and phone — the Instituto has tutorials.

The textbook's own software
The course book has a companion program, Dangdai Zhongwen, with pronunciation, stroke-order and interactive drills. It runs on Windows only (no Mac), so this app covers the same ground — Exercises, Audio and Content — for your phone. If you ever have a Windows machine, the Instituto's tutorial explains how to install it.

6 Small habits that help
- Tie it to something you already do. Cards with the morning coffee beats "I'll find time".
- Say it aloud. Tones live in your mouth and ears, not just your eyes.
- Write the hànzì by hand now and then, stroke by stroke. It fixes shapes in memory.
- Repeat, don't rush ahead. The course is small enough to finish solidly — solid is the goal.

Tracks stream from the app; “Save offline” keeps a copy on this device so they play with no network. Timestamp chips come from the workbook’s answer key (gabarito) — a drill with no time in the key has no chip.
Nothing logged yet. Every card you grade in Today and every minute you study lands here: the streak, the boxes, the characters you know. No numbers are made up, so this page starts at zero.

Speaking practice — scoped to what your class has reached. Hear the model, say it, rate yourself. Works offline.
The model voice is your device's built-in Chinese text-to-speech. For the real class recordings, open . Speaking recognition uses your browser when it supports it — otherwise you self-check, which is how most of this practice works.
